Both Sony’s PlayStation 5 and Microsoft’s Xbox Series X|S consoles managed to outsell the Nintendo Switch in the UK last month, new data has revealed.
According to GfK Entertainment (thanks, GamesIndustry.biz), a new surge of PS5 stock saw the console comfortably top the UK’s hardware charts for the month of May. Both Xbox systems also saw more stock arrive on store shelves, allowing them to nab second place in the pecking order above Switch.
The data shows that Switch sales are currently down year-on-year, although April and May last year saw the UK’s first lockdown and the launch of Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Looking back to 2019, pre-pandemic, Switch’s year-to-date sales are up 60% in 2021.
Almost 200,000 games consoles were reportedly sold in the UK throughout May, a rise of 17% over the same period last year.
