Halo Infinite Season 3: Echoes Within has just kicked off and added ray-traced sun shadows to the game’s multiplayer portion on PC — 343 has confirmed that the feature is coming to Xbox Series X in the future.
Season 3: Echoes Within is the “biggest multiplayer update” for Halo Infinite yet, adding a host of new Forge features, additional localisation support, and more. It also adds ray-traced sun shadows to the game’s multiplayer on PC, and 343 Industries has said we can expect to see it come to Xbox Series X in a future update.
343 Industries adds ray tracing to Halo Infinite multiplayer on PC
343 announced the upcoming Xbox Series X ray tracing support on the Season 3 patch notes, but if you play Halo Infinite on PC, and have a machine powerful enough to run ray tracing, it’s available now. The feature affects the shadows cast by the sun on multiplayer maps — it’s not available in the campaign — giving the maps a more detailed look with vivid shadowing.
To enable the feature, head to the in-game Settings and navigate to the Video tab. Here you’ll find a Raytracing header and below it the Raytraced Sun Shadows option. You’ll need to be running DXR Tier 1.1, as well as an AMD Radeon 6000 or GeForce RTX 2000 graphics card as a minimum. If you don’t meet the required specs, the ray tracing option will be greyed out for you, so you don’t throttle your system.
