There’s plenty of side quests that need little to no explanation for you to solve them. But when it comes to a certain quest in Conning Creak, you’ll definitely need some assistance to figure out how to solve A Fish Filcher in Octopath Traveler II.
It isn’t tricky because it involves high level enemies, but because it isn’t immediately obvious how long you have to wait in order to trigger a crucial part in its story.
Remember my 10 best Octopath Traveler II beginner tips? Well, use that to refresh your memory about changing from day to night before you take on this side.
After that, it’s just a case of patience, my friends, as you wait for the thief to appear.

How To Solve A Fish Filcher In Octopath Traveler II

To solve this curious caper you need to change to nighttime, then wait until dawn for the Thief to appear. Once he arrives, you need to Ambush or Soothe him.
So why are so many people struggling to figure this side quest out?
Well, it’s because of all the waiting.
Most of the time, when a quest involves nighttime activities, you simply switch to the right time and it’ll trigger the next stage. However, in the case of A Fish Filcher, you have to wait until “the middle of the night”.
Those words are the hint to solving this quest, given to you by the Fisherman when he tells you of his woe. Waiting is the name of the game, but you’ll also need Castti or Throné in your party in order to Soothe or Ambush him.

This is because these are the only two Path Actions that will stop his thieving ways. I used Throné because I enjoy surprising NPCs, but you can choose a more… delicate approach.
Once you’ve subdued the thief, it’ll become morning and the Fisherman will confront him. But instead of fists flying, the two solve their issues by joining forces to become a formidable fishing team.
