Exploring Solistia is an expensive business… unless you have your very own ship, that is. Yes, you can say goodbye to those travel fees because I’m about to tell you how to get your own ship in Octopath Traveler II.

Before you read on though, let me state that you don’t need to get your own ship to finish the game.

However, not only will it make travelling cheaper, but you’ll also discover rare items, secret locations, and special boss fights. Who knew sailing was so rewarding!

If you want to unlock all those enticing extras, then it’s time to officially set sail.

How To Get Your Own Ship In Octopath Traveler II

To get your own ship you need Partitio. Once you have him, travel to the Tropu’hopu Shipyard and use Partitio’s Purchase Path Action on Terry to buy the ship for 100,000 Leaves.

So, why do we need Partitio? Well, it’s because this ship is one of Partitio’s many ‘Scent of Commerce’ side quests. These side quests are optional, but I’d recommend completing as many as you can because they unlock beneficial content.

Although you’ll eventually get Partitio no matter what, to avoid spending a lot of money sailing between harbours, you want to get him sooner rather than later. My guide on the best starting characters in Octopath Traveler II will prove useful in helping you decide who to start with.

Of course, having Partitio is only the first step, you’ll then need to have enough money to buy the ship. Even if you use Partitio’s Hire Path Action to recruit a merchant to haggle on the price, it’s still a large sum of money.

This is why you need folks like Throné, Agnea, and Osvald on your team; these characters can get items for nothing, items you can then sell to make a lot of Leaves quickly.

Once you’ve got the funds and spoken with Terry, she’ll finish getting everything shipshape for you (please forgive the terrible pun). The final stage of this process allows you to add some finishing touches, such as the colour and symbol of your vessel.

Your colour options are:

And your sail symbol options include:

  • No symbol
  • Sun
  • Trident
  • Octopus

Now you’ve got your own ship in Octopath Traveler II, you can sail the sea to your heart’s content, discovering secret islands, abandoned booty, and scarier enemies. Which reminds me: don’t sail on the open waters unless you’re Level 35+.

The enemies at sea are much tougher than in other areas of the game, so you’ll get a beating if you venture out too early. Don’t worry though, you can still use your ship at harbours without fear of being ambushed by unforgiving foes.

Speaking of foes, if you’re struggling to get the lay of the land in Octopath Traveler II, might I suggest you read my 10 best Octopath Traveler II beginner tips? There’s a lot of useful information to make the epic grandeur of this game seem less intimidating.
