One of Bandai Namco’s surprise reveals last year was Dragon Ball: The Breakers – a seven-against-one online multiplayer game survival game.
It’s coming to multiple platforms including the Nintendo Switch in 2022, but it turns out there are no current plans for cross-play or even cross-play support. Here’s the full exchange producer Ryosuke Hara with Siliconera:
Will Dragon Ball: The Breakers support cross-platform play and cross-save? If not, is that a feature you might consider in the future?
Hara: There is no plan to support cross-platform and cross-save at the moment.
This could make certain versions of the game a real deal-breaker for some. As for post-launch support, the development team isn’t ready to share any information just yet.
In the same interview, the producer addressed where the idea for Dragon Ball: The Breakers came from. Although it’s drawn comparisons to certain other multiplayer survival games, apparently the “biggest influences” were from scenes within the DB universe.
Hara: Although the game does take the form of an asymmetrical game, the main focus for Dragon Ball: The Breakers was to express the overwhelming power difference between characters with Superpower and normal human beings in a very Dragon Ball-like way.
So, I have to say that the biggest influences were the scenes in the Dragon Ball universe that represented this concept. Such as the scene where Bulma was hiding from the enemies on Planet Namek, or where the civilians were absorbed by Cell in Ginger Town.
Including the conceptual period, Dragon Ball: The Breakers has been in development for “around 3 years” now, and will launch at some point in 2022.
