If, somehow, you’re still playing Rift and have yet to acquire the Hellbug minions and mounts the opportunity to do so has arrived again. The Hellbug Invasion arrived as part of today’s update and will run through February 7, during which time players will be tasked with destroying Hellbug footholds as they infiltrate “Rift from the long-lost Defiance Universe”. In exchange for their services, players will be rewarded with the event’s currency, Chaos Motes, which can be exchanged for Hellbug related goodies including mounts, companions, and pet skins. (At least you don’t have to spend hours chasing Hellbugs down and killing them, hoping for the drop anymore.) A new, reskinned companion is also available – Erebos.
Speaking of new, this year’s event does add new content for players to take part in. Several new quests have been added. This is where you will obtain the Chaos Motes. To pick up the quests, hit up the event NPC is your faction’s capital city. This will be the same event NPC that you’ll trade the Chaos Motes to for your rewards. Although, some rewards will be obtained via the in-game store.
