Slamfire Inc, the parent company of Back 4 Blood developer Turtle Rock Studios, has been acquired by Tencent, according to a press release dropped today.
As would be expected, both companies are out and about saying the usual “we’re so happy” statements that we see every single time Tencent picks up another gaming company. We have to wait an see how long the honeymoon lasts.
“We are all looking forward to joining the Tencent family of studios,” said Steve Goldstein, president and general manager of Turtle Rock Studios. “Tencent’s outstanding partners, global reach, deep knowledge of gaming and unprecedented support will help us create the kinds of ambitious games we dream of, while allowing us to retain our autonomy and independent spirit.”
Turtle Rock will hold onto its existing leadership team, including co-founders Phil Robb and Chris Ashton, and hopes to use the newly-found security to develop the “4 Blood” series into a long-standing IP.
