Over on the Ubisoft forums (thanks, Eurogamer), the devs explain that “In order to continue supporting Assassin’s Creed Valhalla with future content and game updates, Title Update 1.4.1 will require players to re-download the entire game as part of a data restructuring.” No date has yet been given, but the update will happen next week. The update “consolidates the game files, resulting in a smaller overall game size on all platforms. Additionally, performance should improve with this data restructuring, with faster loading screen times, improved world data streaming, and overall runtime performance.” You can see the size of the update below, as per Ubisoft’s description:

- PS5 ~40 GB

Ubisoft had previously said that Assassin’s Creed Valhalla will “benefit from a stronger and longer post-launch programme” than Odyssey, so we know a lot of content must be on the way. More recently, a report suggested that Assassin’s Creed Valhalla will get new DLC in December and an expansion in March, with the same report suggesting that the expansion in March will have around 40 hours of gameplay. Some players are hoping to see a DLC announcement at The Game Awards — we hoped for the same in our TA team predictions for The Game Awards 2021 — so we’ll keep an eye out during tonight’s event. In the meantime, what do you think of next week’s update? Let us know in the comments!
