E3 is the time of year that offers up many big announcements, big leaks, and more fake news than you can shake a stick at. This particular piece of news could potentially have more real news than fake, due to it now being backed up by VentureBeat’s Jeff Grubb over on Twitter. A leak appeared yesterday by Reddit user Swine_flu-greg, detailing a list of games 2K might be showcasing at E3 2021 on Monday, June 14th — which includes a Borderlands spinoff, a new Marvel game in the style of XCOM from Firaxis, and a new title named Codename Volt. We can also expect to see NBA 2K22 featuring Dirk Nowitzki, the famed Dallas Mavericks player, on at least one of the basketball sim’s variations.
The Borderlands spinoff is one of the biggest pieces of news here, titled Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands and featuring the class-based Borderlands-style combat that we’ve come to love from the series. The game is of course being developed by Gearbox and was teased earlier this year and now it looks like we might be getting a good look at it in just over a week.
Ok, so this one is a little bit strange — Firaxis is apparently showing off its new turn-based Marvel game, pitched as “XCOM with Marvel Heroes.” In the same style as XCOM, this will have players command agents in skirmishes, but this time it’ll include Marvel Heroes. The leak also suggests that the cast might have famous actors voicing some of the characters, but we’ll remain sceptical that any of the big MCU names will make an appearance.
Stepping it up a gear, Mafia 3 developer, Hangar 13, looks to be working on a new IP that’s described as “Cthulhu meets Saints Row,” — if that doesn’t make you get all giddy, then we’ll say it again: “Cthulhu meets Saints Row,” better? According to the leak, the game is titled Codname Volt, and features supernatural elements. Our minds wander to a hell-based Saints Row… wait didn’t that already happen?
That’s one hell of a potential line-up! Any of these get you excited for the 2K presentation on June 14th? Let us know down below!
