Block off some time and get your creative hat on as we check out the best Lego board games of all time!
Lego has always been a massive part of our lives here at Retro Dodo. From collecting the best Lego Christmas sets through to sitting down to play the best Lego games on Nintendo Switch, we’ve always loved using our imaginations and making new and exciting worlds come to life.
And, as much as we love video games, sometimes it’s nice to switch the TV off and play some good old fashioned board games with friends and family.
The following board games are just what every family party needs to liven things up. Make models, race against the clock, and travel through some of your favourite franchises with little Lego figurines as your guides.
So, what are you waiting for; let’s crack on with Number 10 and get this ball rolling!
(N.B – don’t step on any Lego pieces while reading this article).

Lego Creationary takes the 10th spot in this list of the best Lego board games of all time!
The Lego Dice in this game is like something from our childhood dreams; roll a category and either create buildings, vehicles, nature, or the blanket term of ‘things’.
Plus, players build the dice themselves to add a little bit of extra fun which never gets old.
The aim of the game is to build something epic while players guess what you’re building. Up to 8 gamers can gather around to play, and when imagination is concerned, the sky really is the limit.
Or as many Lego bricks you have…

A Lego game about one of my favourite stories, of course Lego Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey was going to fit on this list of the best Lego board games!
The premise is a little weird, I’m not going to lie, but anything with Dwarves and a Lego Gandalf is always going to score well with me.
The Dwarves of Thorin Oakenshield’s company have got lost in Hobbiton. It’s your job to find them and save them, all while the board changes between your turns.
Yes, this thing will tax your brain more than a bout of Risk Legacy!
There are 4 figurines to build along with a custom dice. Make Gandalf, Fili, Kili, and Dwalin and play with 2 to 4 players!

Ludo is an amazing game in its own right, but we all know that Lego makes everything 10 times better. That’s why Lego Ludo takes the 8th spot on our Lego board games list!
Players have to build the board and the number gyro before starting, and instead of coloured counters there are coloured Lego figurines to use!
I could have done with this game when I was a child as my mum once got so mad playing our actual version that she broke the number gyro in the very middle!

Fantasy fans will love every second of Lego Legends Of Chima. Battle your opponents tribes while collecting crystals in different locations on the board.
And the best part is that you can make your own rules… which sounds incredibly dangerous to me knowing my friends!
The tribes are definitely the best part of this game too. Build and use four crocodiles, four eagles, and four lions.
It’s like the PC game Black and White but in Lego form!

How are you at building in a race against other players? Lego Creator The Race to Build It Board Game kind of revolves all around the concept, so if the answer is ‘not very good’, then it’s probably best you skip ahead!
This game really is addictive and a load of fun to play with your friends. Get a card, move around the board collecting pieces, and be the first to build your model.
With loads of cool robots and vehicles to build as you move from space to space, there’s plenty to keep you coming back again and again, and it harnesses the love of building that we’ve all had since getting our first red Lego bucket set as kids.
As I said though, the race is on, so make sure you beat the competition and become ‘bricktorious’.
I couldn’t wait to write that last line!

Star Wars: Battle Of Hoth takes the 5th spot in this list of the best Lego board games of all time!
We all love Star Wars here at Retro Dodo. From protecting shield generators on Rogue Squadron to wielding lightsabers in Fallen Order, we just can’t get enough of the franchise.
And that love falls into the world of board games too.
Like Chima above, the rules can change as you play. That makes this strategic battle for Hoth one of the most challenging games that you’ll ever play!
Play with 32 figurines from the Star Wars universe including an amazing AT-AT walker!

It’s not just the rules that change in Harry Potter Hogwarts; the staircases do too!
Little squares signifying all of the elements that we love from the books such as the many shifting stairways and the castles sneaky secret passageways change while you’re playing, keeping you on your toes from start to finish.
In a game made for Hermione herself, players need to get all of the homework they have left in their classes first and get back to their respective common rooms in order to win.
As a huge Potterhead, this one is my go to every time and definitely one for the wannabe wizards out there!

It’s time to get tactical with the 3rd spot in our list of the best Lego board games, Lego Pirates Chess.
I know some people don’t see Chess as the most fun board game out there, but for someone who loves strategy games like me, it’s the ultimate challenge.
Sometimes when I play against my mate Josh he can take 30 minutes to make a move, and that’s not an exaggeration.
This set uses cool Lego Pirates that players need to build before playing.
And, if you want to make it a little like Wizards Chess, then you can destroy them afterwards when you take them!

A secret temple, a vicious Minotaur that can destroy players, and walls that move to block you in as you move through a labyrinth – welcome to Minotaurus.
Anyone who loved reading the story of the Cretan Minotaur will love delving into this interactive game. Make it larger or smaller depending on how many players are competing, and you can even add your own Lego bricks into the equation to expand exponentially!
Plus, like all of the other Lego dice block games above, players can make their own rules to mix things up too!
Will the Minotaur get finish you off, or will you exit the Labyrinth victorious?

I had to hint at it up above, so some of you might have guessed that this was coming. But yes, this Lego Harry Potter Hogwarts Wizard’s Chess Set tops our list of the best Lego board games of all time!
The iconic Wizards Chess game from the first book and movie is amazing, and with little pieces of Ron, Hermione, and Harry to add into the mix to make up the missing pieces, it’s a fun and accurate Lego replica of that amazing scene.
Play with a friend or just keep it in your games room as a collectors item. However you choose to use it, it’s definitely the best Lego board game out there and a worthy winner of today’s list!
When you’ve finished rolling dice, why not check out the best Lego games for your favourite consoles and keep the action going brick by brick!
Seb Santabarbara has bought every Nintendo console that has ever been released in his 31 years on Planet Earth. His favourite game franchise is Zelda, and he’s patiently waiting for Banjo-Kazooie to come back to the fold. When he’s not playing games, he’s travelling the world in his self-converted camper van.
